Nathalie Djurberg is a Swedish video artist who is best known for her clay-mations, videos featuring animations made out of clay with music by Hans Berg. Her work seems naive at first, but on closer inspection, it is often violent and erotic at the same time. Her work is currently exhibited at the Camden Arts Centre in London

Providence-based performance and video artist Peter Glantz has been working on a long-form solo show that incorporates video, puppetry, and Glantz’s weird alien alter-ego. I saw the premier performance of it a few months ago, and it was amazing. I can only imagine he’s refined it even more. Here is the creepy video teaser for it.

Washington DC video artist Rob Parish spends his days rummaging through Archive.com, collecting together vintage film material and editing and overdubbing it to create these fantastic little shorts, posted weekly on his website, Next to Heaven. Some, such as Episode 49 — where a man reminisces about his macho sporting childhood while the video shows a timid boy putting on makeup — are deeply touching, while his other work flits between sharp humour and real poignancy.

I’m mesmerized by the weird yet strangely wonderful work of Daito Manabe, a Japanese video artist who puts electrodes on his face to make glitchy electronic music.
Clothing designer, artist and teacher, Howard Tangye gives us a cool look at models. The etched lines draw out a specific moment in time and the eyes seem to be sharing a conversation, listening to someone go on. You can almost predict what they are about to say, responding to you in a manor of compassion, yet keeping their guard up at the same time. Read more

Improv Everywhere strikes again with a spontaneous musical in a Los Angeles mall. Wireless microphones hooked up to the mall’s PA system ensured the feeding masses didn’t slip into Cinnabon-induced comas until after the show was over. Note especially the angry dude in sunglasses at about 2:51 — apparently he thinks nothing can ever top Rent.
Herzog and de Meuron, the Swiss architects, have led the way with this re-use of the existing building fabric of CaixaForum in Madrid. Rather than being slavish to the existing openings, the building has been cut away for a contemporary practicality. We think this is an example of heritage not getting in the way of progress. Check out a similar concept of a previous post re-using the city fabric, where we were dreaming of such thing.

Whitest Boy Alive follow their own rules: no overdubs, no FX, and the music is always recorded live in one take. Fronted by Erlend Øye (of Kings Of Convenience notoriety), the Berlin collective produce a distinctive blend of minimalist melodies and pillowy grooves. And on the eleven tracks that constitute their new album, Rules, they convey one polite directive: please, move your body.
