With the city as the subject of Violette Bule’s new photography project, she approaches the social and political issues of current history with irony and a sense of humor. The Heroines talks about the injustice in the field of the social, cultural and political in Venezuela and overseas, using the technique of staging and direct shooting in public space. Violette highlights and puts into context events happening in our culture. The city is the “set”, the shoot is made in real-time, and the intention is not to underestimate the viewer, but to make it an accomplice.

A friend told me to look up Mariana Monteagudo’s artwork. She recommended it because I have a tendency to be drawn to cute, yet creepy art. I was blown away by it. Her work consists of large, ceramic art dolls. I may be strange, but I thought they were less creepy and more cute. She’s a Venezuelan artist with a new show called, Humanoid, running at Space 2 in Bogota, Colombia.
