Self-proclaimed junk artist Gabriel Dishaw has an upcycled range of skull likenesses created with recycled bits and pieces. Darth Vader’s right there, made out of parts from adding machines, computers and typewriters. So’s Mickey Mouse, with his ears made of airplane cargo ramp wheels. There’s even an unnamed Decepticon with eyes that light up.

I love using salvaged materials to make jewelry, so when I spotted an IT keyboard destined for landfill, it was destiny in the making. That encounter inspired me to create the R U My Typ3? series, a collection of quirky statement necklaces made using keyboard keys and seed beads. Time to stop pushing people’s buttons and start wearing them.

A masterful blend of utilitarian aesthetics, spartan but strong structures, and bare minimalism pervades designer Stephen Kenn’s Inheritance furniture collection. Couches, chase lounges, chairs and ottomans: everything is made from WWII military fabric, steel welded frames with a marbled brown finish, webbing belts and backing leather straps. Simple, dignified and gorgeous.

The environment is one of the most important things in my field of vision and my thought processes right now. I love the concept of upcycling, it will have great socioeconomic resonance for years to come. There are so many exciting and beautifully made concepts on it. It’s even motivated me to reuse a lot of my old unused sketches to create to new work and to regenerate old ideas that I once considered unworkable or redundant.

Between Us Women is a series of plates inspired by old photos and trinkets that the designer, Lisa Bengtsson, found in her grandmother’s drawers. Using these vintage bits as a muse of sorts, the collection celebrates the women in our families. Each plate is inscribed in the back with a description of a particular character – an inspired touch; if you read Swedish, that is.
