I’ve been keeping an eye on this soul surfing, tribal exploring, nomadic spirited photographer for a while now. He captures something in his work that tells the ‘real’ story. The rawness of someone’s humanity mixed with an elegance sways me into wanting to view the next cool mission he goes on. He also has some good tunes on his website, so as you do your scrolling, put some melodies on to compliment your viewing.
Living in the far away land of kangaroos and prawns on the barbie, I often lean on the always reliable internet to keep me informed. As a visual learner, I really appreciated this tumblr which helped communicate what I can only imagine was a key argument in the recent Presidential Debate.
We all like to imagine we’re the hero of our own legend, right? This fun tumblr updates the old classics – some in as short as a single sentence – with details that make them relevant for today. A taste: ‘The ugly duckling read obscure works of literature in other languages and listened to indie music even the guys in the record store had never heard of. If I’m not going to be prettier than anyone, she thought, I’m at least going to be better than them’.
Posters of Berlin is a tumblr showcasing posters and art found in the streets of the German capital. Some of the featured works are commercial, others are just meant to make the viewer hesitate and think. All of them provide a great visual footprint of the unique cultural scene of one of my favourite cities.
The whole world of blogging just gets stranger and stranger everyday, but now there’s a Tumblr page dedicated to 80s Muscle, that is: muscly dudes and women from the 80s. Scrolling down the blog takes you on a seemingly endless journey full of protein shaken, steroid taken, ripped and cut muscles. So if you’re a […]
Let us now praise photoshop, tumblr and people with free time and strange imaginations. The One Tiny Hand tumblr tweaks photos of celebs so they appear to have one normal sized hand and one ridiculously tiny one, an effect which is disturbingly hilarious, or maybe hilariously disturbing. Jeff Wysaski of the Pleated Jeans blog takes some famous people and some innocent creatures and “corgifies” them. All are peculiar. Korgye West is a classic.
Rumours were already brewing earlier this year, but now that Apple has actually gone ahead to drop Google Maps in favour of Apple Maps in iOS 6, some of its users — many aghast about the inaccuracy and lagged speed — are having a good laugh documenting its ineptness with a Tumblr sarcastically named The Amazing iOS 6 Maps. New screenshots are streaming in fast and furiously, accompanied by equally funny captions (e.g. ‘Clearly Apple knows of the coming apocolypse [sic]’ went one in response to a screwed up image of Brooklyn Bridge looking like it’s collapsed).
The epitome of cool, exemplified by these cool folks so effortlessly, it’s simply impossible. And yet it’s not. As Gore Vidal once said: ‘Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn’. Looking at these pictures, we have to agree.
Before there was Nolan’s Batman, there was 60s’ Batman. Batman had Robin. They got mixed up in all sorts of crazy stuff and ran away from all sorts of shit. Like wild penguins. Like Power Rangers. Like trippy psychedelic graphics. As you can see in this Tumblr, they have a lot of shit to run away from.
As an Asian, I can vouch that the phenomenon of Asians Taking Pictures of Food is not only well and alive, but that Asians take these pictures very seriously. Just check out the expressions.
I love stories with plot twists, but I feel like I always see the same handful of cliches: it was all a dream, they were both one person with a split personality, something to do with a ghost, etc. There are infinite endings out there that haven’t been used yet, so I’ve been writing and illustrating ideas on Twitter and tumblr: beginnings and middles not included.
Tumblr somehow lends itself quite well to the most bizarre stuff, and its users have been great at feeding whatever fathomable obsessions they have through the microblogging platform. Fuck Yeah Jesus Men is one of these obsessions. People with the hots for blokes who look like Jesus, we’re looking at you.
The doodles created by Gracki are casually done, sometimes carefully thought out stories, showing the ongoing adventures of her own characters. Other times, they are the product of daydreams, wondering what would happen if Rhinos tried to play soccer or how a giraffe would be treated at an amusement park.
