Obama checks a lot of email, and he’s looking at everybody’s email. That is the premise of this amusing Tumblr, which started as a dig at the NSA surveillance scandal that is currently gaining a lot of attention for intruding on the personal privacy of individuals.

It’s basically picture after picture showing, well, the President looking at computer and phone screens everywhere he goes, presumably tracking what everyday Americans get up to online. Quite masterful.

Being a wool fuller in the 12th century seems to be the pits in occupational suffering — imagine being immersed in clay, urine and lime for hours and hours at a time — while we must confess that being a modern-day subway pusher in Tokyo sounds rather fun in a sadistic manner.

When I was a kid, I had a paper route. One of my customers had no teeth, and I only found this out when I made her laugh one day. Barring the rather excellent Numb3rs drama series and, er, New Orleans band Mutemath, the Facemath Tumblr is probably the best pop culture use of mathematics we have seen so far. Facemath adds up a bunch of celebs (random objects like facial hair or bunny ears also make an appearance) to emerge with one celeb, the sum of the total. Every math sum here is solved in a way that’s so oddly comprehensible, it’s geeky without alienating the non-geeks.
