Last year’s hit American Boy by British singer Estelle featuring Kanye West spawned a number of parodies and remixes online (including a hilarious Egyptian one). The one by TraPhik was surprisingly good beyond being merely amusing, which led me to watch a few more of his videos.

The LA-based rapper of Thai decent has a pretty slick flow, and his freestyle skills make him a contender to be the next Jin  or at least that’s how people will probably brand him. In actuality, his approach to hip-hop is refreshingly light-hearted and (dare I say) innocent, rapping about romance and partying rather than thug life and drugs. His debut album, Rush Hour, is catchy, positive, and smooth, and though it won’t make a lasting impression, it’s certainly fun and entertaining listen.
