There’s something about the power of music: it transforms you to a whole different place from where you physically are. Then there are the actual places that the tunes are composed for, or make mention of. The Tom Waits Map, made by Swedish Waits fan Jonas Nordström, takes that idea and runs with it right across the world map with a pin on every geographic location that Waits has sung about. Crafted by classically trained soprano Aileen Robinson, this Eyeball Kid is made of acrylic yarn, comes with a detachable brimmed hat, and looks kind of homeless. We recently made a stop in Boise on our US tour to play an in-store on a Monday evening on a night we didn’t have a show. Didn’t know what to expect, but what we found was a treasure. The Record Exchange has been there for 30 years. The staff was so kind, the record and movie selection was vast, and they had a coffee bar.
