Tom Petty meets The Pointer Sisters in a neon karaoke bar in Tokyo singing Tina Turner? Hmmm. The music of Iglu & Hartly is a real sonic milkshake, a genre blending, culture-defying laser show, featuring synths, raps, sailboats, inspiration. “We’re wide-screen,” says lead vocalist, Jarvis Anderson. “The album’s like that scene in The Wizard Of Oz when the picture flips from black and white into color. We want people to listen to our record, be inspired, look inside themselves and work out how they can dominate the world in their own unique way,” says Jarvis. “We’re about smashing down barriers.” Which they do nicely on their debut album, And Then Boom. Setting Sun’s cover of Tom Petty’s You Got Lucky was recently released as part of Buffet Libre DJ’s compilation CD, Rewind 2. Says frontman, Gary Levitt, of their version on the song: ‘We got back from our European tour on Christmas Eve with a December 27th deadline for the track looming. It was finally started on December 26th and then sent off completed the next day. It was a great exercise in having to let some things go. That’s twenty-four hours out the door complete, old school style. That’s how records used to be made. Fashion blogger Tavi is biting, witty, articulate, and stylish for any age. The fact that she’s only twelve makes her kind of over-the-top amazing. Already an accomplished photographer and astute critic of all things wearable, the sarcastic pre-teen is probably sick of being described as precocious, but she’s the very definition of the word.
Oh man, my eyeballs feel like they’re dropping out of my head. This clip is pyschedelic in a way that platform shoes and polyester shoes could never be. The Faint are the shizz, and that’s the truth.
