Hudson Hongo has compiled a best-of collection of the precious, priceless times when everyday harmless folks sincerely thought The Onion articles were for real. Naturally, we bawled our heads off at the confusion that greeted the one of the Nicolas Cage puppet (‘wait … I don’t understand.. there no Nicolas cage?? I mean as a real human?’)
‘Too good to be true’ is the slogan underneath the blog title, and we couldn’t agree more. Every gem of a headline carries a link to the originating news story from whence it sprung — only because, we suspect, that these wacky headlines would seem fake otherwise. We especially like ‘Adult men who like My Little Pony gather, say they are not creepy’ and ‘For Would-Be Cougars, the Prom Is a Good Start’.
This cuss-laden jab at mindless consumer culture takes aim at gadget fetishism and the endless deluge of hi-tech gizmos we’re all subject to. It’s one of the best things The Onion has done in a while.
