You do not buy the Big Fat Duck Cookbook for inspiration for weekday suppers. This is a cookbook you pore over, gazing at the tantalizing photos and stunning imagery, while your stomach rumbles. It is gastronomic theatre and food photography at its ultimate. And rightfully so; the visual imagery would have to match the brilliance of its author: extraordinary master chef Heston Blumenthal of The Fat Duck fame. Through words, photos, and illustrations Blumenthal recounts his history, recites magical yet mind-bendingly complex recipes, and deeply explores the philosophy and science behind gastronomy. Throughout the pages, photographer Dominic Davies – who was recently honoured with the James Beard Foundation Award for cookbook photography – captures the genius of Blumenthal’s mastery. Read more

The Australian film collective behind the sci-fi spoof, The Time That Time Forgot, perfectly capture the look and feel of awkward, low-budget rip-offs from the ’70s — the psychedelic lighting, bad dubbing, and amazing hair. The graduate exhibition of third year graphic design students at Sydney’s Design Centre is called 342 Seconds and relates to the estimated time required to view the show. The exhibition takes place on December 3 and looks to be well worth checking out, if these works by Jenny Lee [above] and Sean Batchelor [below] are anything to go by. Knuckleheads is a pretty fun little side scrolling game where you’re a pair of Mexican-wrestler-looking things attached to each other by a chain. You swing each other around to move and hit floaty capsule things for points, and you can change the length of the chain to get over various obstacles, but watch out for the bats.
Stylistically The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is hard to pin down, except to say that they throw one hell of a party – which may be why those music-loving folks at Apple chose them to help sell what’s being touted as ‘the funnest iPod ever’. Sun-drenched pop melodies collide with Technicolor dreams, anchored by the band’s shared love of the classic soul stylings of Marvin, Stevie and Sly that can be heard in the horns snaking through Around The Bend, as well as the slinky The Sun Ain’t Shining No More [below], the Thomas Gold remix of which we have available for free download in the Music Download section of Lost At E Minor [psst, it's in the third column], along with a stack of other cool tunes. Get those iPods ‘a thumpin’!

AJ Dimarucot is a Manila-based designer specializing in t-shirt graphics. His work is electric, bursting with colour and momentum, like something you’d see in the Big Bang section at the Museum of Natural History. Or something like that. Read more
