Australian illustrator Kirra Jamison’s usual decorative work, exuding mythical creatures and magical landscapes, has taken a turn to intricate psychedelic illustrations. Featuring some of the finest young photographers that Aussie fashion magazine Frankie has run over the years, Pretty in Print is an exhibition of fashion pages and the photographers behind the shoot at Sydney’s MTV Gallery between 6-10pm on August 13. There’ll be music from Fergus, Des Miller, and others, amongst all the wonderful photography from Ezra Patchett, Amanda Austin, Julia Schauenburg [work above], and more. I’m really excited about the Melbourne band Plug-in City. They remind me of Belle & Sebastian, The Kooks and Cut Copy all in one. What more can us New Yorkers ask for?
If you come to Berlin, then I recommend this little shop, Dederon Design, specializing in stuff manufactured in, or inspired by, the former GDR (East Germany). Everything from ice cream cups to LP racks and toys. The woman running the shop even designs bags in some weird GDR-invented plastic material.

There’s no shortage of bands channeling the surf rock and psych of the 1960s, but the Super Vacations’ sloppy vocals, drunken guitar riffs, and blown out production give them a knowing swagger that has as much in common with Beat Happening and Thee Headcoats as with the Pyramids. They seem to take pride in how bad they are live, but their debut record shows a lot of potential.
