Some people really know how to through a party, and this pool party is like no other you’ve seen. The savvy people of Red Paper Heart art studio filled a full sized swimming pool with 65000 ping pong balls. The floating installation featured sound activated lights to coordinate with music and beautiful synchronized swimmers performing graceful movements to match the light show. And, of course, a DJ was present poolside to keep the music going all night. I wish I’d been there! Watch the video to see what you missed.

That US photographer Donald Miralle Jr. is at one with water — he’s an elite paddleboard racer and lives in the San Diego beach community of Leucadia — shows. He took this evocative shot of Ironman competitors swimming over a school of fish at Kailua Bay in Kona, Hawaii, which in turn won the World Press Photo 2012 award. We don’t have anything to add except that it’s magical. Yep. It’s magical. It’s magical. It’s magical.

Initially, one of the attractions of being in Bern was the Alps, snowboarding in winter, and all that. What I didn’t bank on was the unique summer swimming experience in the fast flowing, glacial river that runs around the capital. It’s a bizarre but blissful ritual; on a really hot day, tens of thousands of people parade a kilometer or so up-river in swimsuits then jump in at various points to float back down again. Like ducks. Much infrastructure has been built around this pastime: places to safely exit the river (it’s fast), masses of lockers so people can just come down after work, dump clothes and jump in, logs provided by the state for campfires and BBQ’s.
