This is a great animated short inspired by a StoryCorps recording of Joseph Robertson recounting an incident he experienced during the Battle of the Bulge. The entire thing is done with Photoshop, AfterEffects, and scanned pencil drawings. Not to denigrate his service or the poignancy of his story, but I can’t help but wonder, since Robertson lingers on the fact that the soldier he killed was ‘blond, blue-eyed, and fair-skinned’, if he would have been as haunted by the killing of a Japanese soldier or someone he may not have had thought of as having angelic qualities.
I love the vibrant colours and slippery energy in Japanese artist Aki Matsumoto’s beautiful seaweed art.
Anna The Red was born in Japan and now lives in New York. She makes art you can eat. Her Bento boxes feature characters from Dr Suess, Studio Ghibli and Maurice Sendak. I’m not sure whether I want to eat them, or leave them on the mantelpiece to look at until the ants claim them. Read more

The latest project of former punk rock drummer Andreas Asingh from Copenhagen, I literally stumbled across Small through my participation at the By:Larm music conference in Oslo. As one of the many up-and-coming bands in Denmark, their sound is a cross between M83, Remote, and Giorgio Moroder; captivating and adventurous, and full of strong melodies.

With his heavy, all-protein diet, Leatherface probably needs to exercise a little, so this Nike sneaker made from human skin leather should suit him nicely. Actually, this piece is a grotesque and almost too realistic shoe made from latex as a comment on the horror of sweatshop labor
