You have coins collected in your pockets or at the bottom of your purse after a long day’s work. What do you do with them? Chuck them in a drawer, put them in a piggy bank or just leave them clinking at the bottom of your bag. The men of Ninja Moped, however, had something else in mind with their pocket change: stop-motion animation.
Annette Jung makes films for Talking Animals, a Berlin-based animation studio. Her latest thrilling stop-motion short features Michael Jackson’s Thriller in Lego blocks, which came next after her Lego Dance video. Full-length versions, please!
If Indiana Jones and Darth Vader had a face-off, who would win? There’s only one rule: you can’t use the force. YouTube user PatrickBoivin may have thought that rule made the fight fair in his clever stop-motion short video, but let’s stop and think about it. Without the force, Darth Vader is nothing more than a […]
Amanda King’s music is a mesmerizing form of indie folk. The music video for her song Yellow Velvet Mountain, directed by Nicola Smanio, is a mix of live action, plastic lenses, model landscapes and hand-drawn creatures, all spiced up with a bit of dreaminess and mysticism.
Mark Weaver likes to play with LEGO. Seriously, this isn’t just a children’s hobby anymore. Weaver takes the universal building blocks to a new level of art using the Vine app which lets the user create short, stop motion films. Check out his brilliant stop motion shorts here.
This is a handmade stop-motion video with over 600 photos by Amsterdam-based artist Elza Jo for the debut single, Sad Feel, by Eiko, a Japanese singer songwriter. The volume of images in the video hits like an automatic machine gun. Magical.
We’ve seen many Playmobil stop-motion videos, but none as well-shot as the ones by Karim Rejeb, who merges his love for both extreme sports and stop-motion animation into what he calls ‘xtrem stopmotion’ on his site. We really dig the surfing one above (all of over 7 minutes long!), while his most recent work is […]
Let’s say it together, GIF. It’s pronounced Jif, just like the peanut butter brand. Ok, now that we have that out of the way, go ahead and chuckle at this clever stop-motion short history of the GIF file. Going all the way back to the stone ages of computers in 1987, this video will sum […]
Virginia native Kevin Gallagher took 4,000 photos during his six-month excursion through the Appalachian Trail and made this incredible stop-motion video from them. Entitled Green Tunnel, Gallagher’s film showcases the beautiful and diverse eastern United States with its soothing scenery. For those of us too lazy to make the trek ourselves, this video is a […]
Montreal film-maker and stop motion wizard Patrick Boivin has an impressive array of short films to his credit. Most recently, he added this charming spoof on Bruce Lee’s Enter the Dragon starring pint-sized kung-fu master (and his own son), Elvis Bulte Boivin. A behind-the-scenes featurette reveals how Boivin was able to pull off the ridiculously […]
Tommy Thomspon’s High Strung is a possibly auto-bigraphical stop motion animation about a character who becomes lost in his own work. It’s a haunting piece reflecting those points in life where the line between our work and our identity becomes blurred.
Perhaps, my friends, perhaps. After all, not everyone can create a stop motion Lego proposal with dramatic twists and turns and a sweet, sweet finale. Watch on in awe, and all you guys getting ready to pop the big one, take heed! You’ll need to something pretty damn impressive these days to get a reaction.
It seems like everyone and their canary thinks that they have what it takes to become the world’s best amateur chef. Talk a lot about ‘depth of flavours’, cry a little bit on camera to show your passion, slide right into a book deal and a TV show that lasts about two seasons. The artist known as PES has stripped the art of cooking right back: no famous faces, no fancy dishes. In fact,no real ingredients.
I spent a year hitchhiking around the USA, and despite my Nana thinking I was going to get murdered and diced into tiny pieces, I actually had an amazing time. This 162 second video is a photo documentation of the last three months of my trip, when I hitchhiked from the Pacific to the Atlantic […]
This is a deceptively simple stop-motion animation by Marcel Schindler that illustrates Ernest Hemingway’s timeless classic, The Old Man and the Sea, through drawings. Great for all you (many) Hemingway fans out there.
