For young or ever youthful visitors to Stockholm, Sweden, in the warm months, outdoor club Trädgarden is not to miss. More like the expected scene of edgy Berlin than clean, pastel Stockholm, Trädgarden is an outdoor space under the bridge of a southbound metro line. The grimy location is craftily covered by colorful lights, three bars, wooden bleachers for people-watching, large blocks for sitting or dancing on, and even old video games like Space Invaders, which guests can play projected onto one of the bridge’s pillars. People show up every open night, but a Saturday around 1am is a spectacle.

Stockholm-based artist Meriç Algün Ringborg has created just that; opening the Library of Unborrowed Books for three weeks. The 600 books were collected from Stockholms Stadbiblioteket (Library) and displayed to try and question why they haven’t been chosen. The books exist, but does anyone care? On a slightly awkward note, the books must have been borrowed for the exhibition.

I’m addicted to TV series’s like Underbelly and Sons of Anarchy, so I had to see this movie about the Stockholm underworld. Jens Lapidus’ first book of his Stockholm Noir Trilogy, Snabba Cash, was made into a Swedish film. But with its success will come a Hollywood version, Easy Money – if you can’t read subtitles. Daniel Espinosa directed it, which led to him getting the Safe House job. Zac Efron is lined up to take the Hollywood lead.

Bored of the too-easy point/click way we find new music, I decided to make my own songs harder and more interesting to get hold of. I spent a year hiding CDs with my music on in cities around the world (with a little help from friends). I filmed the whole thing, including the responses I got, and edited it to a song from my new EP, Realityicide.

Last year, around this time, I had just returned home from being stuck overseas in Sweden due to the volcano eruption in Iceland. I missed gigs and events back in the States, but not all was lost. In Stockholm, I found the work of artist and engineer Tomas Saraceno.

With more than five scientific patents, Tomas’ artistic vision aims directly for the future, and the future is in the sky. He’s designed these amazing, home-made balloons that, layered with sky plants and facilities, aim to create an autonomous, floating nation. Definitely worth a look.

Smak på Restaurangen is an ultra hip Stockholm restaurant where flavor reins king. At the heart of this stylish Scandinavian space is a modern culinary concept where gastronomic exploration is encouraged, if not mandated. Based on specific flavors alone, diners select tastings of 3, 5, or 7 small dishes. Fancy wasabi or truffle, tamarind or mint? At Smak på Restaurangen any or all can form the foundation of your meal. Drinks too follow the same concept with offerings revolving around sage, blood orange, and watermelon, for instance. The concept and atmosphere behind Smak på Restaurangen is what makes it one of the most talked about restaurants in Stockholm. Admittedly, the ever-changing list of well-known DJs guest spinning at the bar doesn’t hurt either.
