Enigmatic stencil-artist Eelus will open his debut London solo show, The Colour Out of Space, at Blackall Studios on February 25. His striking new collection of works feature intricate stencils and precision spraying; making them some of the best in street art.

Brooklyn-based stencil artist Chris Stain has transformed LA’s Carmichael Gallery into a New York City rooftop scene, complete with pigeon coop for his first West Coast solo exhibition — Up On The Roof Countin’ Pigeons — featuring his gritty, enigmatic stencil portraits integrated into the large-scale installation, which offers a unique perspective on contemporary inner city life. Heavy metal and hip-hop are perhaps the most popular forms of rebellion for kids the world over. In Malaysia, metal — particularly black metal — has taken such a strong hold that the Fatwa Council there banned it, fearing that the music would compel listeners to rebel against religion. Contrary to the council’s intentions, black metal is as popular as ever in Malaysia, and is a recognizable cultural touchstone there, as indicated by the above clip from the 2005 film Filem Rock.
Located on West Houston, Alphaville is my favorite gift store in Manhattan. It offers a great selection of vintage objects, from Nixon’s campaign buttons, to Sesame Street 80s mobiles, 50s greeting cards and the original Mr. Potato Head and his friends. It’s one of those places I walk into just to look but always end up buying something.
Somehow, meme-based blogs never lose their charm. Maybe because they’re just so stupid. The FAIL blog is simply a catalog of the funniest FAIL images on the web.
Despite their jarring name, British noise duo Fuck Buttons are surprisingly palatable. The band’s long, droning tracks are infused with sweet twinkles and sunny synth, but dark shards of ominous guitar overdrive and distorted screeches pierce the shimmering surface just when you’re ready to zone out. Danceable beats occasionally draw everything back together, creating a stormy, pulsing, and disorienting atmosphere.
Skagen are a Danish-born design company based out of Nevada with an innovative and clean approach to their work. Their trademark product is this titanium mesh watch, which I’ve worn with pride for years. But they also produce different models of sunglasses and jewellery. When so many products these days offer extra gimmicks and weigh you down by their size, Skagen strip it all back and, in doing so, hoist themselves far above the pack.
