I stumbled upon these trainers at Classic Kicks in Elizabeth St, New York. Stampd LA was started by Chris Stamp as a creative avenue customising trainers by hand painting pop culture graphics. He soon began collaborating with N.E.R.D and DJ Steve Aoki, making them one of a kind collectible trainers.
Paul Fryer’s sculptures and installations seem to come from a not-too-distant future dystopia where the joke of civilization, organized religion, and technology has been revealed to us. Read more
Los Angeles painter Lisa Solberg was just what I was in the mood for this morning, as I was glancing through my links. Color, lots of color, tossed about, smeared and swirled all over the canvas. It really hits the spot. She also has a new video of her painting process.
Artist David Shrigley’s animated music video for Blur is so simple, so sweet, so perfect. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it, yet it still makes me cry every time.
Jean-Julien Pous’ Seeking You is an animated love letter to the city of Hong Kong. It presses all the same buttons as Blade Runner and In the Mood for Love, with a touch of Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s gothic style, and though it’s really amazing eye candy, it also smacks of creepy, orientalist expat. Here, an entire Asian city is exoticized, fetishized, and finally anthropomorphized in a rather unsubtle way. Why are so many creepy old European dudes so lecherous when it comes to Asia?
Since they blew up with the release of their debut album, All Hour Cymbals, Yeasayer have become the hottest thing to come out of Brooklyn since the $2.25 pizza slice from Luigi’s on Dekalb. I’ve been waiting for a group like this. These New Puritans are balls in your face, 100 miles an hour, pure attack! A young British group that has most of the UK press in the palm of their skinny pale hands, they hint at a sonic mash of Bloc Party mixed with what White Rose Movement were supposed to be. What more could you want?
