The work of Spanish artist Noelia Requena is perfectly charming in a raw and spontaneous way. Colors and textures are layered on top of one another, seemingly on the slightest whim. The result being a collection of wonderfully captivating vignettes.

Says Barcelona-based illustrator, Oscar Gimenez, of his beautiful line drawings: ‘I used to be a big fan of fashion illustration. When I started illustrating, that’s what everybody was doing, at least in Barcelona. But I get so easily distracted and bored with trends that I quickly came off it. However, it looks like a few people out there thought I had to pay off for my contempt, and they decided I had to do it this year. Hence all the work on fashion I’ve been doing lately. Lots of vain people posing just for beauty’s sake! Luckily, I got distracted by a couple of conceptual jobs that came in between and temporarily woke my brain up. One of them, a short animation for the Audi Q5 Generis, has given me the chance to see for the first time my work in motion’.
They say you can’t reinvent the wheel, but designer Ron Arad has done just that with his Two Nuns Bicycle. Rather than the traditional spokes and tires, this bike moves along on mandalas of bolted steel.
Being an Urban Quilter, I love all things alternacraft, especially when they mix in street art. So I was stoked to see some of Banksy’s images re-imagined as cross-stitch patterns. Princess Animal is San Francisco’s answer to urban knitters and crafters, and sells the Banksy kits.
I’m really excited about the Melbourne band Plug-in City. They remind me of Belle & Sebastian, The Kooks and Cut Copy all in one. What more can us New Yorkers ask for?
The strategy based architectural firm Popular Architecture has created a scheme that takes on the spread of cities. Based on the estimation that London will need to provide housing for 100,000 new people each year up until 2016, this building houses 100,000 in one hit. Read more

Lyon-based Babylon Circus is music laced with ska, gypsy, rock, vaudevillian antics, dancehall and reggae. Their first Australian East Coast tour in 2008 saw the nine piece band sell every show out. They feature on the So Frenchy So Chic compilation. We asked them to tell us about their favourite music right now, and they started with Django Reinhardt’s Minor Swing [listen below]: ‘Backstage, home, in the bus, cooking or having breakfast, is there a time you wouldn’t love to hear this one? We love it anytime, any style, too, as it’s been remixed and rearranged so many different ways. Still, we love the original best’.

Seriously, all jokes aside, we really need to tear ourselves away from our computers every once in a while. These shirts, on sale at Threadless, may be intended as a light-hearted jab at modern culture, but who will be laughing when our hands become gnarled claws from decades of ceaseless typing and our spinal columns have fused solid from lack of movement? Evil monkeys, that’s who.
