An exhibition on architecture where the building becomes the art? The front of Bratislava, The Slovak National gallery, has been converted into what looks like a four lane highway, suspended precariously over the footpath. The classic brutalist facade of the gallery used to be concealed behind a big billboard advertising Ford. NL Architects decided if they had to have advertising on the building, they were going to do it in style. This transformation was designed as advertising for Modernice!, an exhibition of work by Dutch firm, NL architects. The exhibition is displayed in a in a fifty-meter long arm of the Bratislava museum and runs until June 21.

What will they stink of next? A chain of supermarkets in Brooklyn and Staten Island have began a radical experiment to pump the aromas of Lindt Chocolate and Smoky Bacon, among other flavours, into the air as a way to encourage mouth buds to start watering. And it seems to be working. Fruit sales are up 8 percent.
Peter Nalitch is Russia’s answer to Manu Chao. His video for the song Guitar is a Borat-like jab at low-budget, post-Soviet awkwardness — absurd English lyrics, Eurotrash earnestness, bad wipes, and cheap subtitles. But its tongue-in-cheekness is quite apparent, and the song is disarmingly catchy and romantic.
Look closely at the froth of this latte and you’ll see a portrait carved out amongst the grains and milk. It’s a truly a work of art and it’s a feature of the coffee served at Richmond, Melbourne cafe Flavours of Lakhoum. Check, please!
This website hosts a nice collection of quirky, sometimes mind-boggling, sculptures from around the world. There’s a certain Dali-esque feel to a lot of them – those surreal, dreamy hallucinations turned into a warped reality. I’ve always been a sucker for art that really catches you out for a few seconds, and these certainly do that.
Already with a Spectrum show under their belt, The Archerbolds are an up and coming Australian band well worth checking out. I saw the Sydney-based lads play recently at the Mars Hill Café and it was evident that they should be permanently rocking out on a real stage; not in front of coffee sippers. Their floating lyrics, smart guitar riffs and meaty bass lines are infused by The Strokes, Mars Volta, The Beatles, and Led Zeppelin — ultimately producing a freshly spun modern-vintage sound. Lead vocalist and guitarist Geoffrey ‘Gep’ Rectin says The Archerbolds plan to create a solid sound for next year: ‘Over summer, we’re recording an EP and working on a set sound, defining more of an image’. If their track, Rest Your Soul, is anything to go by, then it should be pretty dandy.
