Kilian Martin totally killed it in this video directed by Brett Novak, and now he’s back with another Novak-directed short film of him skateboarding in slo mo through India. It’s sick and beautiful at the same time, especially when it’s so well-aided by the Other Lives tune ‘Take Us Alive’.

Since 1992, Flavio Samelo has walked through the streets of São Paulo photographing skateboarders, which allowed him to introduce to his own artwork graffiti, pixação, and other urban elements. Today, the works of Samelo have two fronts: the photographic output, an image with a circulation of one print, creating an indisputable original, and his works that mix his concrete studies with the urban images. Using photography as a base for the paintings allows Samelo to push the limits of his images through the use of shape, line, and color, and to communicate a new graphic reality.

Long before I moved to America, I dreamed about travelling the great spaces you see in the photos of Scott Pommier. Before he started taking shots of the Great Wide Open, guys on motorcycles, and campaigns for Chrysler and Harley Davidson, he was a skateboard photographer for many years, shooting pieces of art rather than the usual super-wide angle stuff that bores the shit out of anybody.

Somewhere not that deep inside of me, there’s a fifteen year old girl who loves Blink 182, Airwalk treads and a guy called Bernard who hung out with his cargos around the plump rounds of his backside at the half-pipe around the corner from the footy field. In fact, that girl is now sitting in front of her Macbook with huge puppy eyes and swooning all the way back to 1997 with a new blog called The Skartorialist: The Sartorialist equivalent of skater boys from around the globe. The creation of London-based commercial and editorial photographer, Sam Ashley, it should also be known as ‘Painfully cute and perve-worthy lads around the world holding decks’.

Having spent five years living in New York, I can attest from first hand perspective that the city has a definite mysticism that just translates so well to film. These old school shots of kids cruising the streets on old school skateboards remind me of how little has actually changed in the city over the 53 years since the photos were taken by Bill Eppridge for LIFE magazine.
