Isenseven has made some of my favorite snowboard films. They keep getting better each year. So I’m stoked to see that their newest production, A Way We Go, seems the best yet. The German company creates their films with an artistic quality and beautifully shot cinematography. And they’ve brought together some super talented snowboarders. This […]
Here’s something you don’t see every day: a skateboarding skeleton. The artist behind this is Darren Pearson, a master of light painting photography. The video, Light Goes On, is a stop-motion light painting animation that shows a skeleton living it up in the dark of the San Diego night. According to Pearson, it took him […]
In Ethiopia, the Ethioskate project is using skateboarding as a tool for motivating young boys and girls aged six to nineteen in a rough community. The project inspires the local kids to be whatever they dream of becoming, using skateboarding to focus them away from the draw of drugs and crime in Addis Ababa’s Intoto […]
Girl and Chocolate skateboards put together what is now one of my favourite pieces of film. It’s called Pretty Sweet and it’s made so well that it will make even the most uncoordinated and lazy person want to pick up a board and start shredding. The way that it’s cut, the effects, the soundtrack, the […]
Some people fight the bubonic plague. Some pen novels, inspired to greatness by Nobokov and Wilde. While others wake up and say, ‘Today, I shall build a skateboard large enough to invade Poland’. So, from the more-is-more school of radness, we bring you the World’s Largest Skateboard. It’s available to hire for your next event, […]
In 2008, Etnies footwear owner and former skateboarder Pierre Senizergues presented the Skate Study House, a line of furniture designed by Gil, also a skateboarder designer for Etnies. Composed of skateboard decks and wheels, and influenced by the most iconic furniture designs of the last century, Skate Study House furniture is unique and custom made.
Kilian Martin totally killed it in this video directed by Brett Novak, and now he’s back with another Novak-directed short film of him skateboarding in slo mo through India. It’s sick and beautiful at the same time, especially when it’s so well-aided by the Other Lives tune ‘Take Us Alive’.
Lives and Levels is my independent skate company based in Sheffield, England, passionate about skateboarding, great design, and quality products. The name Lives and Levels comes from when my brother and I were kids and we’d play video games – mostly Mega Drive back then. We’d take it in turns based on lives and levels […]
Since 1992, Flavio Samelo has walked through the streets of São Paulo photographing skateboarders, which allowed him to introduce to his own artwork graffiti, pixação, and other urban elements. Today, the works of Samelo have two fronts: the photographic output, an image with a circulation of one print, creating an indisputable original, and his works that mix his concrete studies with the urban images. Using photography as a base for the paintings allows Samelo to push the limits of his images through the use of shape, line, and color, and to communicate a new graphic reality.
No… not the Joss Whedon masterpiece but a pretty amazing skate video all the same, shot using a camera mounted on a motion stabilised helicopter drone. We used one of these for a shoot and they’re super fun. There’s an amazing shot at about 1:00 into the piece where you really get a sense for […]
Juan Rayos specializes in filming skate videos. He’s become more famous thanks to his Chicas at Longboard videos. The videos show two jugglers together – on one hand, Kilian Martin dancing with the board as an extension of his own body, and on the other, Rayos always following the action very closely. Dope! It’s not […]
I came across Kilian Martin’s skating prowess a couple of years ago and this video makes the mind boggle. Skateboarding in my youth and defining my own rules and tricks made me a visual artist today. Kilian’s riding is far better than most skater’s dry technical ability. Even within skating he is arguably creating his […]
Long before I moved to America, I dreamed about travelling the great spaces you see in the photos of Scott Pommier. Before he started taking shots of the Great Wide Open, guys on motorcycles, and campaigns for Chrysler and Harley Davidson, he was a skateboard photographer for many years, shooting pieces of art rather than the usual super-wide angle stuff that bores the shit out of anybody.
Skateboarding is a beautiful form of expression and existence. It truly is a way of life. You fall, you get back up, then you fall again until you succeed. That’s the beauty of it. Russell Houghten is a prime example of skate documentation. His pieces capture the essence of that exhilarating daily experience.
