Dutch animator Sjors Vervoort’s amazing short CARDBOARD was made with painted cardboard placed on the street. The character designs are pretty cute, too.
Christian Northeast’s work often reminds me of Terry Gilliam’s. It has a much more vaudevillian/Americana feel to it, and he incorporates a lot more original work into his collages. Read more
Here’s a meme tumblr blog that has a little more substance than most: We Are the 99% invites people to post their own stories of how this economy and financial system has screwed them over. Of course, these are some of the people behind the Occupy Wall Street protests.
This clip had such an impact on me when it first came out, back in the day. There’s just something so poignant about the idea that some people you pass on the street everyday have a little bit more insight into their world — our world — than we could ever imagine. It’s beautiful and confronting, and it’s all set to the most wonderfully evocative music.
I recently passed through Detroit and saw the Heidelberg Project, an amazing street installation by Tyree Guyton. It felt like walking through a ghost town that had been ravished by art zombies, hauntingly beautiful and particularly sad on the rainy day I was there. Read more

One of the most dynamic new acts to burst into our eardrums in years, Brooklyn’s Vivian Girls have just released their debut self-titled album, which combines Phil Spector-ish Wall Of Sound harmonies with fuzzy melodies, as reflected on this track, Where Do You Run To.
