Maps represent a landscape, but they can also mean much more. Victorian artist Siobhan Punshon has recently been working with all sorts of maps and charts, using them as source material then fictionalising the landscape with colour and patterns to create new interpretations of the technical documents. The results then push the viewer in several different directions, as familiar names and symbols are rendered confusing and nonsensical, taking on compelling and dreamlike qualities. Siobhan Punshon has held solo shows in both Melbourne and Sydney, been an artist-in-residence at the Melbourne Aquarium and a finalist in several major art prizes, including the Mosman, Paddington, the ANL Maritime Art Prize, the Fleurieu Peninsula Water Prize and most recently the Albany Art Prize.

This clip had such an impact on me when it first came out, back in the day. There’s just something so poignant about the idea that some people you pass on the street everyday have a little bit more insight into their world — our world — than we could ever imagine. It’s beautiful and confronting, and it’s all set to the most wonderfully evocative music.
Disregard the buzz that surrounds those other cupcake shops in New York City. Cheeks Bakery in Williamsburg houses the best cupcakes that I’ve eaten. The clean and understated decor extends to the menu, where being fancy doesn’t rule on the cupcake shelves. Cheeks offers, simply, vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with either vanilla or chocolate cream. But if you do want more, Cheeks has that as well, a limited selection of pies and cakes.
Finally, the Tumblr we’ve all been waiting for. Lonely Cheetos casts a discerning light on those poor neglected cheese puffs that dot the New York subways. Read more
Strip away the cookie monster vocals and downtuned, distorted guitars, it’s hard to imagine death metal still reading as death metal, but 8-bit duo Dr. Zilog manage to do just that. The Floridian sound-card tweakers make some pretty amazing original, NES tunes that are strangely compelling, catchy, and actually quite metal.
All you nerds should wet yourselves over these Doctor Who costume t-shirts, which feature the outfits of various Doctor Whos. Which one is your favorite?

Pitched as ‘Ulterior Motives in Contemporary Art’, Disorder Disorder is running until November 14 at Penrith Regional Gallery. Italian brand Brionvega has resurrected the classy Radiofonografio piece first created in 1965. The updated version is just like the original turntable/radio unit, but also has a CD/DVD player.
Inside this sea urchin shell is an organic perfume made from grapefruit and basil essential oils. This bottle, designed by Stephanie Simek, is refillable and is packaged in a wooden box decorated with a satin photograph and padded with slices of exfoliating loofah sea sponges.
