I almost didn’t go to this year’s Maryland Deathfest because it was kind of expensive, and I didn’t have anyone to go with. But then I snapped out of it and realized that I had to at least go one of the three days because I’d be a big poser if I didn’t. I chose to go Sunday so I could catch my friends Krallice play. I also got to see legendary bands like Aura Noir, Bolt Thrower, and Sigh, many of whom hadn’t played in the US in decades if at all. Read more
Seiko Tachibana is a Japanese born, San Francisco artist who beautifully blends the juxtapositions of her experience in her work. Taditional tendencies with a modern approach, excellent use of negative space, and the boldness to work in large formats, her art to me seems so respectful of traditions while offering a glimpse of a design oriented future.
In the midst of the biggest environmental disaster ever faced in America, the team behind LogoMyWay have kicked off a design contest for the next BP logo. Good to see another hefty boot being put to good use.
Seldom has black humour been done so well. On the surface, this film about the everyday lives of some unusually mundane characters, sounds extraordinarily boring. But it is instead a cutting comment on the absurdity and drudgery of everyday life. The characters try to break out or change their lives without success, and the results are bleak and hilarious. This song — More Childish Than In A Long Time — from Swedish teenage twins Taxi Taxi! just burst into my headphones like the first welcome glare of a mid-morning sunshine, stinging my ears wickedly with its coarse, repetitive beauty. The forlorn, introspective lyrics and melody tease and shimmer, sending a fleeting and not-so-subtle tap on the shoulder to hit repeat, repeat, and soak it all up again.
