Our friends over at the photography website, Feature Shoot, are giving away three copies of the stunning book, SKATEBOARDING.3D, which features three dimensional images of some of the finest young skaters on the scene. And let me tell you, viewing the photos through the supplied glasses is a trip! The book is the work of photographer Sebastian Denz, who was a visiting artist at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2008. This website hosts a nice collection of quirky, sometimes mind-boggling, sculptures from around the world. There’s a certain Dali-esque feel to a lot of them – those surreal, dreamy hallucinations turned into a warped reality. I’ve always been a sucker for art that really catches you out for a few seconds, and these certainly do that.
The first album released by the Malian duo Amadou & Mariam, Dimanche a Bamako, bordered on exceptional, if not for its songwriting then for its sheer diversity. You’d be forgiven for approaching cautiously an album that draws its influences from Syria, Cuba, Egypt, India, and Colombia, as well as its own country – much like a restaurant that offers every cuisine on the planet: choose one and do it well, you’d argue. But the album is fantastic: so full of life, so catchy and so accessible. Read more
