Our friends at National Geographic have just published a series of amazing photos of new fossil species found in the Atlantic Ocean, including this one above, the Sea Cucumber Mountaineer, which is ‘normally found on the ocean floor’. Says marine biologist Monty Priede of the discovery: ‘We’ve always thought of them as slow-crawling animals, but they are actually capable of swimming. This is quite important on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, because otherwise there’s a risk of starving if they get stuck on a ledge somewhere’. Read more

A couple of days ago, Museum Victoria broadcast a live dissection of a real giant squid at the Melbourne Museum. So if you nerd out over weird marine life as I do, you can download the video from their website.

Some people have too much time on their hands. Either that or this was an opportunity just too good to pass up. Regardless of the motivation, this street assembled iPod is pretty damn rad.
Sparks’ album Kimono My House is a demented mix of hard rock, pop, glam, new wave, and baroque pop. Why this record never caught on in the States I’ll never know. The songs will get stuck in your head and prevent you from sleeping. Oh yeah, and the keyboard player has a nice mustache too, as evidenced by this track above — This Town Ain’t Big Enough.
On my recent visit to Barcelona, my love for Animal Farm led me to the Plaça de Geroge Orwell. There I discovered Oviso. The tiny café features hand painted walls and low wooden benches, where inhabitants enjoy great coffee for €1 and discuss music, beer, photography and the hordes of tourists that bustle just beyond the quiet square.
I really don’t understand cat haters. Most of them claim that our feline companions are aloof and distant, graceful and mysterious to a fault. In my opinion, cats are just as goofy as dogs, which is why any documentation of them acting like spazzes makes me chuckle uncontrollably. Read more
