Last week, the Highline Ballroom hosted a sold-out show filled with more teen angst than a vampire movie. Say Anything was headlining, which was clearly who the crowd was there for, as teenage girls ran rampant, trying to scam drinks at the bar and waiting impatiently for the opening acts to finish their sets. I was interested in seeing Miniature Tigers beforehand, so I made sure I got to the Ballroom in time to catch them at 7. The Tigers have a great sound, and they were fun and energetic on stage, although they certainly could’ve been tighter. Read more
I was lucky enough to catch self-taught Melbourne artist Ghost Patrol’s latest exhibition recently, and it was magical. Ghost Patrol’s work ranges form fine ink drawing, street art, and commissioned murals to soft sculpture. Read more
My sister runs an after-school college prep program in the Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco. She loves fashion, but is also very frugal. She keeps a very funny blog about the most exorbitant, ridiculous fashion items around. I don’t care about fashion myself, but I find her blog to be good for a laugh (and sometimes, a cry.)
In my next life, I want to sing like Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison. Oh, and grow a lush beard, so I can play in their band. Better start cracking.

I don’t do yoga. I have nothing against it, but it just seems a little too new agey for me. However, if I do eventually try it, I’d like the instructor to put on Fabio Orsi’s moody, ambient, drone experiments. Using piano, guitar, percussion, field recordings, and various sampled elements, Orsi creates some beautiful, meditative pieces that, while undeniably fruity, are still weird enough to hold my interest.
