When I was 11 years old, my parents had three tapes in the car: one of John Denver, one of Simon & Garfunkel, and one of Sinead O’Connor. I didn’t understand her fiercely defiant political stances at the time, and later I found them abrasive. But now that I’m of a certain age, I appreciate how gutsy she was and how determined she was to upset the status quo.
