If you’re going to Santiago, Chile, in January, and you’re a theatre, dance and performing arts lover, you should check out Santiago a Mil, one of the most important festivals in Latin America. It gathers artists from all over the world. 2010 is an especially emotive year because it’s the Bicentenary of the nation. Local companies are going to present the most emblematic national plays from the last two hundred years of Chilean theatre and emergent artists are invited, too, giving a renewed substance to the scene. The crew at Twin Cat Vintage have extended their range of clothing from vintage clothing to new designs inspired by the past. Given they’re limited edition, they still have the feeling of ‘one-of a kind’ that vintage offers.
The large scale of Clare Woods’ work is impressive, to say the least. I’m digging her technique: the thick, impasto stroke backgrounds contrasting with meticulously busy foregrounds. However, seeing the painter’s psychic landscapes from afar really puts her use of scale into perspective and blows my mind.
Lasse Gjertsen is the future of cut and paste music. He’s just arrived ten years too early and with a really bad haircut.
I love the interesting lines and clever use of sustainable materials found in the Klein Bottle House, a holiday place in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. The architects, McBride Charles Ryan, based the design around the concept of the Klein Bottle, ‘a descriptive model of a surface developed by topological mathematicians’. Read more

Castevet are a promising new experimental black metal band out of New York. They have a much more complex and technical approach than other bands of this ilk, revealing post-hardcore and death metal influences as evidenced by guitarist Andrew Hock’s work in deathgrind outfit Biolich and Boston jazz/death/doom band Ehnahre.
Ummmm, is there anything more to say than AWESOME? Tara Duff is capitalizing on pure awesome with these masculinity-boosting facewarmers.

It’ll be well worth the trip out west of Sydney: the Australian, Japanese, American and European cast reads like a warriors of street art roundup and includes Mike Giant, Ed Templeton, Anthony Lister [artwork above], Ozzie Wright, and Jonathan Zawada.
