It’s hard to believe but Royal Headache, from Sydney’s Western suburbs, were recently unheard of until they suddenly catapulted out of obscurity thanks to the digital age working its magic once again. Lush melodies coupled with heavy distortion is the basic framework behind the band’s post-punk sound. Their song Eloise, in particular, is a catchy, garage-pop gem. My pennies predict the days of recording lo-fi tracks on dictaphones are no more for these lads who are set to share the stage with Pavement next year at the Golden Plains Festival.

After weeks of packing Australia’s crate with the best of Aussie nightlife, our crate was farewelled in lavish style at the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange send-off party in Sydney last week. We discovered Australia is swapping with Brazil, so we’re hanging out for the samba and cachaça to sway ashore and lead us astray. Lost At E Minor contributor Michelle Wilding captured the vibe of the night and Aussie nightlife with this video.
The controversial and multifaceted International contemporary art exhibition Trailblazers hits Sydney this month. Boutwell Draper Gallery will grace multimedia works by pioneering Australian, American and European artists from November 19 onwards. I’m thrilled to see groundbreaking pieces by Ben Frost, Kill Pixie, Copyright and Cleon Patterson [above], to name a few. The vast array of paintings, photography, sculpture, installation, video and digital arts is on display until December 13. C’mon, you know you want to culture your soul.

Macedônian brutal doom outfit Potop, whose name means ‘flood’ in Polish, is one of the most anguished, despairing, dirty, hateful bands of the genre since Burning Witch. Their down-tuned, down-tempo sludge is virulently anti-life, oozing out of the speakers like poison gas. Read more
Accessory designer Anne Holm Alexandersen gives new meaning to the concept of Black Swan with her interpretation of a feather collar. The intricate piece is hand-stitched with leather and attached in the back to replicate wings. Pair with pale skin and a tight hair bun for instant ballerina chic.
