Jerky is actually really easy to make, but for those who don’t have the time or who don’t trust their culinary skills, SlantShack offers to make your jerky for you out of beef (grass-fed or conventional) and a number of various brines, rubs, and glazes.
UK company Re-Worked turns rubbish into recycled products in an effort to reduce carbon emissions. Their latest effort is Çurface, a range of furniture (including coffee tables, appropriately enough) made from a mixture of used coffee grounds and polystyrene. The pieces can be ordered through their website and apparently they may smell like coffee grounds for the first few weeks. Sounds like a caffeine addict’s dream. Read more

A Dutch insurance company recently launched a pretty creative ad campaign that was put on the backs of buses in Amsterdam, making them look like they were actually moving backwards.
Says Yuko Shimizu on the artwork of legendary Japanese illustrator Katsushika Hokusai: ‘I was just at Kinokuniya Bookstore [a Japanese book store at Rockefeller Center in New York] a few days ago and bought The Complete Hokusai-Manga Sketchbooks [published by Shogakukan]. Back in the ’90s, just as the gangsta rap phenomenon was winding down and hip-hop was fragmenting into its own subgenres, Prince Paul and RZA kicked off the short-lived horrorcore fad with their group Gravediggaz. At the time, the melding of dark, gothic themes with hardboiled rap seemed gimmicky and awkward, a strange extension of the early and awful attempts to bridge hip-hop and metal, but on closer listen, the now defunct supergroup was way more innovative than they were given credit for.
