As we made our way to the bar at RAFW this year, it was obvious something was going down. A crowd had gathered around what we assumed to be an off-duty supermodel, but as we ordered our white wine spritzers (they were all the rage) it became apparent that this was no ordinary celeb spotting. The fashion pack were salivating over a man wearing what looked to be a life-sized rat dipped in some sort of neon plastic coating. We needed to know who was behind this, and now finally after months of extensive of research the mystery has been solved. The girls responsible for this Zoolander-like moment are Aussie label Make Believe. They coat flowers and toy rats in high-sheen latex to create scene-stealing jewels. Anyone who has ever been a fan of those old school cut and paste zines, band fliers, and the like, will really dig the work of Brooklyn illustrator, Ted McGrath, who creates the most fabulously rough and raw, spontaneous collages and ink drawings. Be sure to keep an eye out for the latest edition of American Illustration as McGrath has had the honour of creating this year’s cover. Read more
I spent time recently in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee, enjoying fine Southern cuisine, gracious hospitality [’y'all come back now!’] and the warmth of a sun beating down like a semi-gnarled blanket. Swedish designer Paula Hagerskans has a cool masculine-edge to her female fashion lines. But it’s her attention to detail that really blows my mind. Her perfectly tailored jackets, along with her flat dress shoes, make dressing up fun, comfortable and classy. When asked what she keeps in mind while designing, Hagerskans responds, ‘Bohemic music lovers, humor, graphic design and the female body’.
Tim Lee’s illustrations are wonderfully intricate and precise, a tangled world of escapism and realism mixed into one. Read more
In the wake of America’s historic presidential election, nearly two years of divisive campaigning, and eight years of a controversial administration, the nation is in desperate need of healing. Beloved Internet personality Ze Frank started From 58 to 42 with Love where contributors use their webcams to post messages reaching out to the side of the country that didn’t vote for their guy. It’s saccharine at times, and there are one or two borderline nasty posts from people that don’t seem completely onboard with the project’s objective. But overall, it’s pretty effective and moving. I’ll admit I needed a couple tissues while reading it.

My roommate Adam and I have been playing Mark McGuire’s album, Pocket Full of Rain, all summer and some other tapes our other roommate has showed us that he did. I really like everything this guy has done. I sit and watch him play guitar on YouTube when I’m bored.
