Designer Mac Funamizu has really hit the jackpot with this. His latest invention, the cryptically named Sophie, is an iPhone case which prints photos just like a Polaroid. Heavy metal and hip-hop are perhaps the most popular forms of rebellion for kids the world over. In Malaysia, metal — particularly black metal — has taken such a strong hold that the Fatwa Council there banned it, fearing that the music would compel listeners to rebel against religion. Contrary to the council’s intentions, black metal is as popular as ever in Malaysia, and is a recognizable cultural touchstone there, as indicated by the above clip from the 2005 film Filem Rock.
I went into this taxidermy store today in the Mission, San Francisco. There’s something appealing about dead stuffed animals trying to look cute.
This is a friend of mines’ blog. Her name is Nirrimi. She takes really amazing photos, and she makes great little films, too. I did the music score for one a while back. Her blog is like a novel that just plays out slowly but happens in real life. Well worth reading if you’re into photography and good, honest writing. Read more
The Futurebirds are an unruly band of boys from Athens, Georgia, but they might as well have been reared in the backwoods of Woodstock by Levon Helm himself. Their debut release, Hampton’s Lullaby, is out on July 13 via Autumn Tone Records.
