Life isn’t perfect and the people who made up the Tumblr account Absurd Life Quote probably know this better than anyone. For as the name implies, this account is dedicated to those quirks in life. Like when you look better in the mirror than you do in a photograph. Or when your favourite position in bed is next to the wall because then you can charge your phone (amiright?).
Recently we showed you a girl’s yearbook quote that made us chuckle. She was the pineapple-on-pizza hater and will go down in history as one of the only people to hate pineapple on pizza (because seriously? Do we have to go through this again?!). But now there are a few other yearbook doozies we want to share with you and these come to us from the year 1911.
We know famous people say some pretty ridiculous things these days, but step back a few years (or centuries) to when wisdom was valued over celebrity and you’ll find a number of timeless quotes on how to live well. Me and my pal, we recently caught a staging of Waiting for Godot by ABA Productions, then did the perfectly Beckettish thing of walking out right after Act I, thinking it was the end of the play (hey, nobody said ‘intermission’). The Beckettish worldview can get quite bleak, even if it’s in a tragicomic way, so the idea of viewing Beckett quotes (yes, they actually exist here and here) as motivational ones makes me laugh.
Zen Pencils is a comic blog I launched a couple of months ago. I take famous and inspirational quotes and adapt them into comic strips. These quotes can come from anyone that interests me: whether it be serious dudes, like Albert Einstein and Carl Sagan, or rebels, such as Hunter S. Thompson and George Carlin.
Karl Pilkington is probably my favorite person in the world. If you don’t know of him, he’s the personal punching bag of Ricky Gervais. You may have heard his voice on the animated Ricky Gervais Show or seen him on An Idiot Abroad. This website has collected a wealth of his idiotic (and brilliant) sayings. […]
