Here’s one for you 90s kids and 70s kids. Two instantly familiar tunes, one released in 1977 (Queen’s We Will Rock You), one in 2003 (Outkast’s Hey Ya!), both kind of awesome. Music genres can get baffling, but it’s clear nothing — not even three decades — can stop two rocking tunes from coming together to become something even more rocking. This mashup’s by YouTube member FilthyHoBoTV, who has also attempted other mashups such as Kanye West vs Fall Out Boy, but unfortunately seems to have been inactive of late.

Well, we all know what a majestic singer Freddie Mercury was, yet he was also a great composer, phenomenal entertainer but what about visual art? Of course, he was brilliant at this as well.

He graduated from Ealing with a Diploma in Graphic Design. He was behind many of Queen’s album covers, their videos, their outfits and stage costumes. Oh, and he also designed Queen’s logo. What really strikes me is the modernity and simple harmony of his drawings, as it was for his songs as well. That just shows that when you’re a genius, you are no matter what you do: whether it be working or idling away.

Fronted by a Tourette’s Syndrome Tiny Tim on adrenaline, lead singer Jimmy Urine, Mindless Self Indulgence is pitch-perfect rollercoaster rock for the ages. When I first head these guys, it was reminiscent of my first encounter with Queen: they have the same instruments (and samples) as the other bands, but they are voodooing something completely original out of them.
