‘Asperatus’ roughly translates from Latin to ‘agitated’ and refers to a newly discovered cloud formation which appears as ominous, rippling clouds, but confusingly often disappears without delivering on any threat of storm. This series consists of black and white illustrations occupied with the chaotic and confusing present, when our actions have become increasingly abstracted from their consequences. Our friends over at Paper Tiger have just released their first print of the new year, and we’re lovin’ it. It’s called a Touch of Class and is the work of artist, Nathan Ota, who had a recent solo show at Hollywood’s La Luz de Jesus gallery. Ota, whose earliest influences were Frank Frazetta calendars and Vampirella comics, primarily creates his work using acrylics and wood panel.

God I love the work of artist Kelly Lynn Jones.  Jones creates a world of fantasy spaces, the kind of places you just want to crawl in and out of, relax in, explore.  These sparse, unpopulated settings call to mind a sort of Hopper-esque alternate universe. If I could spend even spend just a moment inside one of her paintings!  Her rough rendering on sparse white backgrounds do these settings full justice, properly lending themselves to the quiete, dreamlike feeling these habitats cultivate.  Having followed her work for some time now, I have watched Jones worlds become more involved, growing from individual spaces to entire communities.  I for one simply can’t wait to see what comes next.

Australian illustrator Bindi Booth’s latest limited edition print series is called Home Craft. Each print is limited to a series of 20 and giclee printed on 100% cotton paper. We like.

His illustrations are invariably combined with strong typography. The dimensions for the print are 42cm x 29cm.

A Paper Tiger is a new venture that launched in January of this year selling exclusive prints by some of my favorite artists such as Jack Long [shown above]. Usually I’m unimpressed by so-called printmaking and distributor sites, but these guys really seem to know what they’re doing.
