Tom Whalen likes vivid color combinations, heroic motives, and retro graphic design and illustration art. That’s not the style you would expect to see in posters for a company that primarily sells knowledge management trainings and tools. However, I really like the result and the idea of reverting to a more artistic approach for conveying business messages.

These ‘manner posters’ appeared in Tokyo subways between 1976 and 1982, informing passengers on subway etiquette and good manners. We’re not sure why it didn’t catch on elsewhere — a colourful and entertaining poster versus a crackly intercom message from a bored driver? Hmm. The posters were published in a book, Manner Poster 100′, printed in 1983 by Teito Rapid Transit Authority.

Portland-based Sarah Gottesdiener creates lush, vibrant, and wonderfully ornate poster art, illustration and design work. Her paintings and videos were recently exhibited at Miami Basel as part of a show presented by Deitch Projects. Oh, and somehow she manages to find the time to play in a band called Gay Deceivers, whose debut album comes out on Cherchez La Femme Projects in February.

OroVerde, a German non-profit dedicated to preserving the rainforests of the world, has unveiled a new poster that shows a wide range of bulldozers and heavy equipment, describing them as invasive species of the rainforest.

If you’ve seen some really clever poster mash-ups going on in the NYC subway system, chances are you have graffiti artist Poster Boy to thank. It’s baffling how he can create such elaborate pieces without getting caught.

Post Mortem is an investigation into the realms of an artist’s pysche, carefully extracted and poured onto canvas. It runs at Sydney’s Kinokuniya Gallery between August 28th and September 9th.

I don’t want to play favorites. I love all my illustrator friends and their work. But it is also true that Edel Rodriguez’s theater poster images gives serious shivers. They are just too good! Like this one for As You Like It.
