The Infectious design community creates cool device skins, adhesive wall art, and car decals, using the talents of artists such as Dalek, Tara McPherson, Shag and Junko Mizuno, among many others. To celebrate their new status as the home for Skate Deck Design Community, Popdeck, they are currently holding a contest to design the first five decks to be added to the Infectious catalog. A soviet-era monument in Bulgaria commemorating World War II armed forces was recently vandalized: the figures were all turned into pop and capitalist icons such as Ronald McDonald, Superman, Santa Claus, and Captain America.
No one disputes that the Bush Administration is no friend to civil liberties, but this little spot on the ACLU website smacks of paranoia. At least it’s entertaining, and some people might actually welcome the ultra-convenient vision of the future this piece of propaganda offers.
The Kevin Ayers record Joy of a Toy from 1969 was released by Harvest Records and sits somewhere between Nick Drake and The Byrds. A record slightly ahead of its time, it was filled with enough interesting and clever arrangements and instrumentation to never bore. Girl on a Swing is my favorite tune for the tremolo guitar.
One Last Ounce is an experimental project exploring surreal imagery on an abstract cut. Says designer Jake Jelicich on his creative rationale: ‘I wanted to make thin, unique, comfortable tees that flowed and moved with the night. And I wanted the art to be dark, but sarcastic, mystical and inspiring, all in the same glance. These shirts are about long nights with good friends, being spontaneous, and letting the street lights guide you home’. Read more
