We’ve featured Yellowstone National Park’s morning glory pool before, but this photo posted by Flickr user Arun Yenumula citing Atlas Obscura is just the most amazing puddle of rainbow we’ve seen. This famous Wyoming attraction derives its intense blue hue from thermophilic bacteria that thrives on the heat in the waters, while the red and orange ring closing in on the pool is really the result of invasive bacteria from coins and other trash that park visitors throw into it. It’s a tragic beauty, but it also reminds us of the adage about life throwing you lemons and making lemonade — at least nature is making rainbow out of our rubbish.
