People are often skeptical when I tell them Baltimore is one of the best cities in America, mainly because they only know the city via The Wire and John Waters movies. Maybe this will convince them: the country’s largest pinball museum will open in Charm City by the end of the year.

Angular Momentum is a fun little game which is a little like pinball in that you use your arrow keys to shift a ball’s momentum to propel it through a series of maze-like tubes. The first few levels are easy enough to be addictive, but there are enough obstacles to keep things interesting. [after killing half a day on this game, have a crack at Kitten Cannon]

I blogged about Bill Dunlap a while back, and he checked back in with us recently to let us know about his incredible Poetic Aesthetic in Rural Maryland project, in which he’s attempting to paint murals on barns in every county in Maryland. Sufjan Stevens creates autistic music for introverts — soft, shy, naive, full of shadows, windows, and insecurities. Yet it all sounds slightly forced, his enigmatic songwriting as comforting as it is unsettling.
The work of Australia’s Ben Frost is always interesting. He’s known for his controversial art juxtapositions that confront contemporary Western paradigms in our advertising obsessed society. Crapitalism is on display until November 3 at Opus Gallery in Newcastle, UK. I do hope any disgruntled viewers refrain themselves from slashing his work with a knife, unlike the infamous 2000 Australian episode.
In the wake of America’s historic presidential election, nearly two years of divisive campaigning, and eight years of a controversial administration, the nation is in desperate need of healing. Beloved Internet personality Ze Frank started From 58 to 42 with Love where contributors use their webcams to post messages reaching out to the side of the country that didn’t vote for their guy. It’s saccharine at times, and there are one or two borderline nasty posts from people that don’t seem completely onboard with the project’s objective. But overall, it’s pretty effective and moving. I’ll admit I needed a couple tissues while reading it.
A project of my producer and drummer, Tucker Martine, Mount Analog’s soundscapes are gorgeous, melty mixes of organic and processed sounds. Martine brings the best musicians together to create strange and beautiful music.
