Calendar model pin-ups in outrageous undergarments, striking provocative poses next to classic cars. Sounds like your usual girlie calendar, until you realise these models aren’t women, or even models for that matter, but your regular Joe-next-door. Its creator Janet Schurmeyer teamed up with a photographer for the shoot, photographing mostly friends ‘not wearing the most attractive underwear, whatever it is they feel comfortable in’. It’s apparently a runaway hit in Germany.

The original reference photos for the great American pin-up painter Gil Elvgren have emerged, with comparison of the original models and his pin-ups making great images. The inspiration for his work in producing the often suggestive, cheeky and flirty pin-ups is fascinating, with even these girls given a liberal photoshopping to push the message that little bit more.
