In the 19th century, photographers made these sensational photo composites using parts of different negatives. Images of headless people holding their own heads were very trendy at the time…kind of like the equivalent of the modern day ‘duck face’.

Chicago-based artist Mark Siber snaps tall advertising signs in the United States and Europe, then digitally erases their supporting pillars, lending them an almost reverent appeal as they appear to float in mid-air. It says something about the absurdly blind idol worship that people can ascribe to brands.
