We asked Seattle photographer John Keatley about his portrait shot of the doyen of the modern glamour shot, Annie Leibovitz: ‘One of the things that I found out during my research is that Annie looks through her camera with her left eye. That was interesting to me, and I thought about photographing her as if she were looking through a camera. My original thought was to have her closing one eye, but when I explained this to her, she started using her hands around her face. I really liked how this looked, and told her that I wanted to continue with that idea. That pose ended up being the one that I connected with the most’.

Ed Janssen is famed in Melbourne for his jewellery designs, sold through cult Morrissey-friendly label This Charming Man. ‘The Knuckle Sandwich’ charm necklace (two pieces of bread on either side of a tiny set of brass knuckles, as pictured above) exudes an oddly amusing menace. More recently ‘The Bear Trap’ has been dangling from every second neck, wiping out hope for Melbourne’s unsuspecting tiny forest animals. Janssen is about to launch a new range inspired by the iconography of various secret societies. An anonymous public school teacher known as Mrs. Q, following Morgan Spurlock’s lead, decided to eat every school lunch served to her for the duration of 2010. At the risk of her job, she documents her experience on her blog, which features photographs of the atrocious, shrink-wrapped, processed poison that she and her students are forced to choke down every school day.
I’ve had bloodsuckers on the mind lately, which is better than having them on the neck. But that’s a different story altogether, and not one I want to contemplate on this windswept Brooklyn evening with the moon hanging low and the faintest quiver of mid-Fall chill sending all little creatures scrurrying for the shelter of their urban brick palaces. Scanners’ new single Salvation
I love this track by London based rock group, Scanners, which is off their latest album, Submarine. Having toured with acts such as The Horrors, The Wedding Present, The Charlatans, Electric Six, and Juliette & The Licks, Scanners could well blow up in 2010. Figuratively speaking, not literally. No, that wouldn’t be fun.
