In San Pedro, the Philippines, a new method has been discovered to provide light in the homes of the townspeople. This luxury that I often take for granted has a crucial effect on daily living, and although the heat from the sun bears down on the outside, the people have been living on the inside in darkness. This short video explains how light has been brought into their homes.

Artists Ramon Raphael Banzon, Miggy Borja, Raffy La Madrid (work above), Paul Bryan Miranda, and Mek Yambao come together in their first ever group exhibition, Strange Days and Other Anomalies, which opens on November 13 at Light and Space Contemporary in the Philippines.

In Strange Days and Other Anomalies, the group discovers unchartered terrain played out in unusual settings and circumstances. Through observation or pure imagination, strange encounters are conceived, which leads the mind to question its very own boundaries and re-examine what one considers to be ‘strange’.

On May 4th, I’ll be part of a 30 person art show that will open in the Cubao District of Manila, Philippines called ‘Heavy Hitterz’. This show will highlight artists from around the world from New Zealand all the way to Germany and back. As part of this show, I’ll be highlighting some of the lesser known, but much appreciated artists for people to check out over the next couple of weeks. First up, is Daniel Goffin, a German illustrator who paints on anything from check stubs from local eating establishments to the traditional wood of frames. His illustrations are reminiscent of old 1930′s cartoons. Yum!
