Philippe Starck, the famous interior and furniture designer, is a mess of contradictions as of late. Famously stating that ‘Design is Dead’ and announcing his retirement from design, he went on to launch an eco line of mini wind turbines. Now Starck, who admittedly never left the design world, has made another faux-pax while incredulously stating in Florence at the launch of his new eco-conscious line that he ‘will never be idiotic enough to do fashion’. As I sit writing, I can’t shake the feeling that I’m breaking an unwritten code among travellers. How do you write about a destination that’s paradise because no one knows about it? You tell the right people. So before I change my mind, here goes. Take a boat about two hours off the south coast of Cambodia, and you’ll reach a tropical hideaway called Lazy Beach on the Island of Koh Rong Saloem. Run by two English guys who’ve redefined the meaning of chillin’, it’s turquoise waters and white sands are everything you’d expect. From beachfront bungalows with snorkelling right off the beach, to a restaurant that cooks up the local fishermen’s daily catch. This is one deserted island you won’t mind being stranded on.

Silver Summit make the sort of hazy psych-folk that would suit a long, night-time drive through the badlands. Incorporating an array of acoustic instruments, strings, slide guitar, and haunting female vocals into gossamer melodies, the collective sound like they hail from a dusty town on the Great Plains rather than their native Brooklyn.

Two of the nicest dudes I’ve ever met own and design the ridiculously cool clothing line, Kane & Unke. It’s pretty much all I have in my closet. They used to be sold exclusively at Metropark, but have recently fired up their own online store which I’m told will be up and running around July.
