When I was on tour, everyone was in the habit of using the word ‘sick’ as a superlative as in ‘Dude, that band was sick, I can’t wait to hear their record.’ Sick can refer to anything you deem amazing beyond comprehension. Take Laurie Lipton’s pencil and charcoal drawings for example — with a dark, gothic sensibility, the London-based New Yorker creates cynical images that often deal with political, social, religious, and macabre themes. Obsessive, impossibly intricate art can sometimes veer off into self-congratulatory messes, overwhelming viewers while not having any real substance. Vasco Morao’s Escher-esque line drawings are rather simple, however, and have a gorgeous, meandering, and meditative quality about them. Read more

It’s all about looking into a black mirror and seeing the creative energy burst back out at you. I’m a big fan of Alex Turner’s side project, The Last Shadow Puppets. It’s just really good music. When I first got their record, I didn’t know if it was a re-issue or if it was brand new. It doesn’t sound like a jokey pastiche. It sounds sincere.

This ‘communication prosthesis’ by designer Sascha Nordmeyer is hilarious and awesome. I want to wear one to a job interview.

This bottle, designed by Stephanie Simek, is refillable and is packaged in a wooden box decorated with a satin photograph and padded with slices of exfoliating loofah sea sponges.
