When I was in high school, my art class went on a field trip to see an exhibition of dissident soviet art at Rutgers University. One of the artists that struck me the most was Oscar Rabin, whose expressive, moody paintings appealing to my love of illustration and pop art. Referencing the contemporary, everyday ephemera of mid-century Russia — drab buildings, empty vodka bottles, religious relics, newspapers — Rabin drew the ire of communist authorities. The Moscow-born painter became the leader of the non-conformist artist movement, which culminated in the famous ‘bulldozer exhibition’ in 1974, when police shut down an illegal show by bulldozing it. Eventually, Rabin was exiled to France, where he remains. Beyond the struggles he faced under authoritarian rule, Rabin’s work has a brooding, ominous, yet playful quality to them that has inspired me since. Read more

I’ve loved 3D art ever since I was a kid, especially the kind that requires 3D glasses to really appreciate it. My studio, Thunderdog, is working on an art book right now of just three dimensional art, featuring a hundred artists. It should be out next Christmas.
Ten Masked Men are a British parody band that does death metal covers of famous pop songs by Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera, Madonna, and many others. One of my favorites is their cover of Justin Timberlake’s ‘Cry Me a River’. It’s epic.

Hotel Minimal, is a pop-up one-room hotel from the Linie project that explores the concept of public and private space. Inspired by the unique digital clock apps created by the designer, Sean Zoega, the i-toc watch is a colorful physical manifestation of digital ideas featuring bespoke two-disc Japan quartz movement. The outer gradient displays the minutes while the inner gradient shows the hours. The rings interact, creating an ever-changing pattern of design and colour.
