Jason of Beverly Hills CEO Jason Arasheben recently posted a picture of this impressive octopus ring with tentacles splayed across a model’s hand with the cryptic note ‘Diamond Octopus ring takes over Rodeo Drive’. This horrific kickass bit of jewelry doesn’t seem to be available for sale on the site yet, but it needs to be.
Cool things that multi-task better than you and I: The mimic octopus tastes with its suckers, sees with its skin, and can take on the shape of just about anything!
Listen up-if you thought dolphins, sea lions or even otters were the most intelligent creatures under the sea, you ain’t seen nothing yet! Let me introduce you to the mimic octopus. Just over half a metre long, the mimic octopus is capable of impersonating other sea creatures (such as poisonous fish, jellyfish and sea snakes) in order to avoid danger. In fact, most of the creatures the mimic octopus imitates are poisonous.
Ever wondered how smart an octopus actually is? About as smart as your average toddler. No, way smarter! This video shows just how terrifyingly smart an octopus is when trapped in a jar. Check out those suction cups. Check out that brainpower. It makes you think twice about eating that char grilled baby octopus, right? […]
Octopoda, assemble! Etsy seller and cosplayer Darcy created these cuddly tentacled versions of Earth’s mightiest heroes. The collection of plushies comes with witty (and some not so witty) octopus-inspired names like Tony Starktopus, Thorctopus, Loktopus, and Captain America. Each huggable creature very much resembles the superhero they aspire to be, for instance, Loktopus bearing the […]
Watch as thousands of teeny weeny baby octopuses hatch! This video was captured by a diver in Puget Sound, about 30 meters below the surface. These octopuses are only millimeters in length when they hatch but can grow to weigh more than 15 kilograms and with an arm span of more than 4 meters. Yikes! […]
Wow, this is amazing. Think of taxidermy, and you’ll probably think of wall-mounted deer heads and what-not. Well, how about sea monster tentacles for a change? To be precise, faux taxidermied 24″ octopus arms crafted from sturdy urethane that extend 181/2″ from the wall? Thanks to California-based Etsy seller ArtAkimbo, you can now get a […]
What? AtelierBlink’s Octopus Chair is a curious beast with four pairs of bleached denim jeans sewn together. You can open up all eight arms as a beanbag to lounge on, or pretend to be strangled by fastening yourself within.
What a brilliant idea by Puerto Rican artist Alexis Diaz: a curious mash-up of an elephant and an octopus as a street mural, with its trunk as one of the octopus arms. Diaz apparently took an entire week at Hanbury Street off Brick Lane, London, to complete the work with tiny little brushstrokes. Sure beats going to the zoo and imagining hybrids animals that don’t exist.
Living in the home country of IKEA, it is always nice to see something original, hand crafted, and AWESOME. Adam Wallacavage’s chandeliers are just that. Creating the chandelier from epoxy clay, spray paint and ‘secret sauce to give it that classy glassy look,’ Wallacavage creates extravagant ornamental sculptures crafted in a myriad of colours and […]
If you needed proof for the existence of aliens, well, here you go. Actually, these are octopus eggs. Maybe they’re not as cool as aliens, but they are still pretty incredible. Yes, isn’t nature amazing?
Yeah, yeah, we’re huge fans of octopi. We’re also huge fans of robots. Which makes the octopus robot just that much more magical. This isn’t just any robo-octo either, it’s the world’s first entirely soft robot too. Primarily developed for search and rescue missions at sea, the robot moves with six silicone tentacles and uses […]
We love octopi. They’re masters of disguise and have three hearts and nine brains because they’re so badass. We’d love to have an octopus as a pet too if they weren’t so good at escaping either. Such is life. Here’s the next best thing: a surrogate octopus companion in the form of a 130cm-long octopus bolster. It will — as these hilarious product shots show — wrap its eight long tentacles around you everywhere you go whether you’re sleeping, reading or driving. The Chinese are the ones behind this, of course.
Sometimes coffee isn’t enough to wake you up. Sometimes you need an octopus hanging out in the bottom of the cup to really make it a morning. Thanks to Creature Cups, this is easily achieved. Irreverent spins on the classic coffee cup, now featured in assorted styles in the Lost At E Minor store.
If there is such a thing as a collective unconscious world, then the octopus is spooking around in there for quite a while now. The amount of weird squid photos and drawings I have seen in the past twelve months surely is amazing.
