Crusty black metal duo Bone Awl crawled out of their hole in Novato, California to do a nation-wide tour recently and I missed them because I’m a dingleberry. As if that wasn’t bad enough, they had Klaxon label-mates Volahn and Ashdautas in tow, ensuring pure auditory armageddon at every show. I think I need a metal secretary to keep me abreast of these things.

We checked in recently with one of our favorite illustrators — and Lost At E Minor contributor — Yuko Shimizu: How has 2008 started for you? ‘I was just in the French Riviera with eighteen other illustrators and designers. It was our annual New Year’s retreat. People from all over Europe and North America meet up and spend a week together, exchange information, go see things together, or just have fun. Australian group Pivot have recently signed with the mighty Warp label and — even better (well, for us anyway) — have written a fun Secret Playlist for us. You can see where the many disparate influences have seeped into their latest recording, the beautiful and colourful, O Soundtrack My Heart.
Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris, or ‘Le Corbusier’ is considered by many to be the most influential architect of the twentieth century. His designs are responsible for urban structures around the world, from the grid-city of Chandigarh in India to London’s Barbican Centre, which is currently hosting an exhibition of his work. But to peg him as an architect overlooks an awe-inspiring body of work that also takes in art, literature and even a new system of measurement. With this display, the first serious UK solo exhibition of his work for twenty years, we can finally appreciate the scale of his contributions.
This is a simple, fun interactive website that lets you play and construct your own models that follow simple physical laws. It’s very immediate and fun to start throwing the models around and enjoy hours of wasted time.
I don’t know a lot about The Sugars but I like what they do. Their sound is quite rockabilly but quite modern — like White Stripes. They put out a couple of indie singles and I’d really like to find some time to work with them.
Taking jeggings to the next logical step, Japanese company CUW has come out with these JeanPants Underwear, boxer briefs with denim print on them.
