77 BOADRUM, directed by Jun Kawaguchi, documents the now-legendary 7/7/07 performance in Brooklyn, New York, by the iconic Japanese band The Boredoms, along with … wait for it … 77 guest drummers. We spoke with Kawaguchi and asked him how difficult it was getting the audio sounding right with so much percussion going on: ‘It was just like doing 7777 pieces of a puzzle! It was the hardest, but also the happiest time ever. I wanted to show this “once in a lifetime” event to everyone who could not be there. And I wanted to show everyone how The Boredoms is the most special group in the world’. Read more

UK illustrator, Paul Davis, who was featured in a cover story in Eye magazine, amongst many other notable achievements, is presenting an AIGA Small Talk on November 19 called Design as Obsession: Artist as confused and curious reporter. There’s a deep complexity about the photographs of Beirut-based Gregory Buchakjian. The colours are ambitious and he invariably captures those moments of quiet reflection where, despite the motion of his subjects, you get a sense that there are layers upon layers of storyline sitting just beneath the glowing veneer. Earlier this year he presented his first solo exhibition of photographs as part of an exhibition called Nighthawks. Read more

I’m really liking the style of Natsko Seki. I like the scale she uses, the surrealism, the playfulness and textures. It looks fresh and you can keep looking at her work and finding more in it the longer you look at it. Read more
