Danish ceramic artist Steen Ipsen creates unique forms from repeating and combining elements of form in his works, walking a tight rope between structure and randomness. They look like huge molecular structures that somehow end up basic and majestic at the same time.

Inspirational reclaimed material artist, sadly now deceased, Noah Purifoy was a founding director of the Watts Tower Art Center in Los Angeles. He was an early pioneer for social change via the arts.

His found object work has been shown throughout the world, but the most stunning display is the Noah Purifoy Desert Art Museum of Assemblage Sculpture. A ten acre village of Purifoy’s structures and sculptures constructed entirely from junked materials. It’s all there, weathering the elements and deconstructing along with the desert scape. It’s otherworldly and amazing.

Dafne Artigot is a Spanish artist who lives in Madrid. Her work is based around sculpture, using materials like polyurethane resin and foam. Her figures represent human decadence, playing with the idea about how our bodies become old and fat as time passes by. The tattoos on skin help to represent the decadence process of our souls, filled with messages that remains the glory days.

I recently came across Helen Musselwhite’s beautiful paper sculptures. Inspired by nature, her stunningly intricate layered designs draw you into a fairytale world of forests, flowers and hedgerows. Her framed pieces make beautiful wall art, but it’s her haunting sculptures in glass domes that really stick in my mind.
